Polish Pickup "World Travel & Landmarks" February 2021

*Products shown were provided as press samples in exchange for photos and feedback. All thoughts and opinions are my own.*

It's hard to believe February's sale is already upon us! Time keeps flying on by. Thanks to this month's "World Travel & Landmarks" theme, I've learned a new word: hodophile. This is a Greek originating term meaning "lover of roads" or "lover of travel." While I'm the farthest thing from a world traveler, I will say, I can't wait to get out and go somewhere, anywhere, once it's safe. Hopefully this months offerings can help to scratch the itch of any hodophiles in the indie polish community, maybe even inspiring a new adventure for the future! Stay safe out there, y'all!

All of the products shown here and many more will be available to pre-order Friday, February 5th, at 11am Eastern, through Monday, February 8th, at 11:59pm Eastern, only at PolishPickup.com!

Cuticula Nail Lacquer

"Bloom"

Price: $12.50 | No Cap

Inspiration: A photo of cherry blossoms in front of Mt Fuji in Japan.

Description: "Bloom" is a soft sky blue base with shiny rose gold metallic flakes, purple metallic flakes, and a different sized mix of pink and purple glitters. Shown here in 3 thin coats, plus Cuticula's Limitless Quick Dry Top Coat and Cloud Cover Matte Top Coat.

Thoughts: This is the perfect spring polish! Application was perfectly smooth and easy. The round glitters are on the sparse side since they’re somewhat heavy, so I would suggest letting the bottle sit upside down for a bit before applying. It’s beautiful matte as well.

Cinque Treatment Base Coat

Price: $9.00 | No Cap

Description: Cinque is a nourishing, hydrating, and revitalizing base coat which can be worn as a base or on its own. It contains 5 vitamins, 5 botanicals, and a strengthening ingredient that work together to provide 5 benefits. Click here for a full list of benefits and ingredients in Cinque Treatment Base Coat. Use this treatment as a base coat under your manis or wear it alone in 2 coats, applying it twice a week to give a nice treatment to your nails. Shown here in a single coat.

Thoughts: I’m a big fan of Cinque. I feel like my nails don't get near as dried out when I use it vs other base coats. It’s like a little bit of conditioner for my nails while they're painted. I always use it under my last swatch of the day, and it is my sole base coat used on my right hand. I also love its super quick drying time! I've never used it as a treatment alone, but it does prove to be a great, long lasting base coat for me.

Dollish Polish

"Righteous Dude"

Price: $13.00 | No Cap

Inspiration: The EAC (East Australian Current) with your host, Crush, from Finding Nemo!

Description: "Righteous Dude" is a vibrant turquoise blue with strong green/aqua shimmer and filled with green/blue/gold UCC flakes and holo micro glitters. Shown here as 3 thin coats, plus gloss and matte top coats.

Thoughts: This is one that is just as beautiful when glossy as when matte. It applied great and hit the inspiration on the head. I think it would make such a great summer shade. It does sit more sheer than I expected. Coverage built with each coat, but it is not quite fully opaque at 3 thin coats.

Fair Maiden Polish

"Lucky Charm"

Price: $11.00 | No Cap

Inspiration: Ireland's Blarney Stone.

Description: "Lucky Charm" is a creamy mint green polish with yellow-orange shimmer. Each bottle will come with a little bag of metal clover "charms" for nail decoration. Shown here in 3 thin coats, plus gloss and matte top coats.

Thoughts: This is a wonderful, minty green shimmer polish! The formula leans slightly thick, so it applies more like a creme. Coverage builds nicely, and I believe most could probably get away with only 2 coats for opacity. The included metal charms are super cute! Since they're thin metal, they’re able to be gently bent to suit the curve of the nail. I pressed them up against the handle of a cleanup brush to give them a bit of a curve. This let them lay nice and flush against the nail without sticking out and catching on things. I sealed them in with a single coat of top coat, and they’re good to go!

Glisten & Glow

"Sunsets Over Super Bloom"

Price: $12.50 | No Cap

Inspiration: The Super Bloom phenomenon in Death Valley. After occasionally being flooded by fall rainstorms, Death Valley becomes covered with thousands of gorgeous wildflowers. This rare occurrence creates breathtaking sunsets over the rolling hills and valleys of the flowers.

Description: "Sunsets Over Super Bloom" is a darkened coral loaded with color shifting iridescent flakes that shift from pink/orange/purple/blue and gold. Shown here in 3 thin coats, plus Glisten & Glow's gloss and matte top coats.

Thoughts: This is a bright, head-turner for sure! It has such a happy vibe to it. The formula is perfect, with application being smooth and controlled using the quality paddle style brush. It is a jelly though, so there will be some VNL if a colored base is not used.

Glitter Grabber

Price: $8.00 | No Cap

Description: Glisten & Glow Glitter Grabber is an amazing product that works to grab any extra texture that glitter or flakies can have. After applying your glitter or flakie polish and having let it dry fully, add a nice layer of Glisten & Glow Glitter Grabber on top. Allow that to fully dry and then add your glossy or matte top coat. Click here for a full list of benefits and ingredients in Glisten & Glow Glitter Grabber.

Thoughts: I did a quick comparison test with loose glitter, showing the use of Glitter Grabber vs 2 top coats. The glare really shows it all. As always, Glitter Grabber got the job done, all while not sacrificing any holo or shine from the glitters. One coat of Glitter Grabber essentially equals out to two coats of top coat. Also, I wanted to try something a bit different this month, and test if it smudges stamping or not. It doesn't! I don’t know what they're called, but I used these thick glitter things in a flower design, and Glitter Grabber did a great job at burying them and keeping my stamping looking great!

WiTS Lotion Scented in 'Sakura'

Price: $7.25 | 40 Cap

Inspiration: The Sakura Tunnel in Japan.

Description: "What is This Sorcery?" or "WiTS" Lotion is packed full of skin-loving, nourishing natural ingredients that absorb quickly and leave your skin ultra moisturized. This 'Sakura' scent has top notes of Japanese cherry blossom with jasmine and mimosa, middle notes of orange citrus and tiny hints of cedarwood and musk.

Thoughts: WiTS has been my go-to lotion for years now! I always have a jar somewhere within reach. It absorbs quickly with a non-greasy formula, and provides intense hydration. A little goes a long way. I would highly recommend it. As for the 'Sakura' scent, this is one of my favorites from Heather's Hues! It definitely embodies spring. I absolutely love it! It's such a delicious, sweet scent that’s lightly floral. While it is not overpowering, you can absolutely detect every scent note mentioned above.

LynBDesigns

"In a Van, Down By the River"

Price: $12.00 | No Cap

Inspiration: Van Life and traveling the world in your tiny home.

Description: "In a Van, Down By the River" is a dusty purple to pink thermal filled with aqua to purple to pink shifting flakies, green to blue to purple shifting shimmer, and a hint of scattered holo sparkle. Shown here in 3 thin coats, plus gloss and matte top coats.

Thoughts: This is a beautiful, delicate, and feminine polish. Coverage is sheer, but buildable. I found the individual coats to not apply the most even, so each additional coat helped to make for even coverage in the end. The base itself sits thinner, but the add-ins create some density to the formula. It transitions very easily, holding the warm state nicely. It's nice matte as well.

Price: $13.00 | No Cap

Inspiration: Romantic bridges all over the world.

Description: "Love Bridge" is a slightly greyed burgundy with a rainbow of crystal chameleon flakes. Shown here in 3 thin coats, plus gloss and matte top coats.

Thoughts: This is such a beautiful plum, wine toned polish. The formula is perfect, so application was a breeze. The rainbow of colors used in the flake mix is absolutely gorgeous. I'm loving this one matte too!

PI Colors

"Chaos Heart.000"

Price: $11.00 | 125 US Cap | 10 UK Cap

Inspiration: The Keage Incline in Kyoto, a beautiful landmark in Japan showcasing breathtaking scenery, with beautiful rows of cherry blossom trees on both sides of the railroad track.

Description: "Chaos Heart.000" is a gray base with pink glitters plus pink shimmer and topped off with a smattering of pink hearts. Shown here as 3 thin coats, plus gloss and matte top coats.

Thoughts: This formula is super nice! It applied easily and smoothly, and coverage built quickly. Some may be able to get away with only 2 coats. The pink shifting shimmer is beautiful against the grey base. While the hearts are heavy and tend to sink, there are a lot of them. So because of this, I found a swirl of the brush during each dip will almost always guarantee a few hearts in the coat. This is yet another that is gorgeous matte as well.
